Green electricity: Have you ever run the dishwasher or washing machine when it was not fully loaded?  I must confess that I have – but that was before I came across an eye-opening article that convinced me to start conserving water and save money on electricity – or even to go green as far as electricity is concerned.  For example: your dishwasher and washing machine use  more or less the

My learning curve is not over yet.  I also learnt from an inflated bill to check that the thermostat for our home’s heater/AC works properly as a way of saving money on electricity.

 

What also helps is to unplug your laptop and Television set from the mains when it is not in use and unplug your charger from the mains once your phone is fully charged.  Power referred to as “vampire power” or “phantom load” or “leaking electricity” is still being used by these devices, although they may be standing idle.

 

The energy leakage on individual electronic devices may seem insignificant but add it up and you may be amazed at how it impacts on your electricity fees.  Unplug them individually or all at once by connecting them via a switchable power bar or surge protector with multiple sockets.

 

Green electricity… to summarize:

Renewable sources of electricity are not easy to find and generated limited power.  Fortunately energy can be transformed from one type to another and making and saving our own energy using small electric power generators is just a matter of converting and storing any energy source to green electricity.

The first and most widely used method for people wanting to go green with electricity is the use of solar panels, which transform light energy to electricity.  They are an efficient and clean source of energy but have drawbacks such as the cost in terms of the panels themselves, and of their installation and the fact that they produce limited amounts of energy.  Also, they cannot function without sunlight.  Some governments encourage their citizens to have household solar panels fitted but be aware that this option of going green with electricity can be very expensive.

 

Compared to solar panels, wind generators are a much more efficient natural source of energy if you want to go green with electricity – but only in areas with predictable wind patterns!  They consist of turbines rotated by wind force; the turbines collect the energy, which dynamos then transform into electricity.

 

Magnetic power generators emerge as the top supplier of homemade electricity if you want to go green with electricity.  This cheap yet fantastic method of going green with electricity has been around for ages but the machinations of large power suppliers have kept it under wraps.  The zero point magnetic generator produces free energy by using magnets and magnetic force that induces non-stop motion to produce that creates electricity.  The device powers itself and creates electricity independently without requiring any alternative energy sources.  Furthermore, it will run forever if there is no intervention and generates sufficient electricity to power a home.

 

The world’s growing energy requirements and plundering of fossil fuels by greedy corporations are depleting the earth’s resources at a frightening rate.  The only way of stopping this roller-coaster is by making “Go Green Energy” part of our daily objectives and influencing governments across the globe to follow suit.

 

Applying green electricity in the workplace

 

Even if the man on the street tries to conserve energy at home, the picture changes when he gets to work when all good intentions to go green with electricity disappear from his mind.  A single office clerk can consume a quarter tone of materials annually that may include as much as ten thousands sheets of photocopy paper.  Heating and cooling and powering offices generate approximately 40 percent of carbon dioxide emissions in the USA and consume more than 70 percent of CO2 annually.  Commuters emit 1.3 billion tons of CO2 annually while office computers use up $1 billion worth of electricity annually without actually doing any work.

 

Fortunately there is a growing trend in business to go green on electricity.  Whereas in the past it was up to tenants to install solar panels if it was their choice, Karl Stumpf – head of office projects for the Miami-based architectural firm RTKL – reports that renters are now selecting sites specifically because of their green features.  According to Stumpf, builders are therefore motivated to build green as it expedites leasing, which translates to profit.  When Stumpf’s firm investigated green architecture when redesigning the historic Washington base of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1992, sustainability was a relatively unknown idea whereas today all RTKL’s clients request some form of sustainability in the built working environment.
